Who Am I?

Artist Statement

My art practice was inspired by the Irish rural landscape both the natural beauty and the imperfect nature of the land due to industrialisation and domesticity. I enjoy delving into different narratives that survive the terrain of these landscapes, the tainted memories.

I seek to unravel the marriage, interplay and connection of human intervention and experience with both the industrialised and domesticised landscape, juxtaposing the natural, untouched landscapes. The lack of human presence of these landscapes is signified by remnants and different signs of human life and interactions.

Growing up in the midlands, I was quite accustomed to appreciating the landscapes natural beauty, using the boglands to heat our homes in the winter.  Along with this beauty, comes its flaws- environmental devastation that comes from turf cutting, along with local economical fall. I am interested in the landscape as a form and representation of personal and cultural identity. I search to capture the natural vs the manmade presence in these landscapes, using the stark contrast of machinery and mechanical structures, juxtaposing with the peatlands natural forms, capturing the human presence through both monochromatic and natural hues in a dreamlike ambience.
